All in a day's work...
The corner of Arch and Spruce in Downtown Searcy has a new look thanks to artists: Daniel Adams, Katherine Kilpatrick, Carrie Goslin, Jonathan Alexander and Ryan Baker. This painted panel is on the west side of the White County Tax Assessor/Collector building.
The artists are using Downtown Searcy as a learning ground for a team of artists who are going to Ghana to the Village of Hope Orphanage to paint murals in their schools. Daniel Adams, art professor at Harding University, shares this thought, "My contention is that ministry/missions for artists doesn't just happen overseas. We have the ability to improve the lives of people here, too, so why not do mural work on both sides of the ocean?"
Their goal is to paint a couple of those panels each year. Each one will contain a topic that is important to White County-- industry, agriculture, health care, education, etc. The next panel will be executed the weekend after Easter and it will be health care.
Aren't we fortunate to live among such gifted and talented people who are willing to share their talents to make our hometown a better and more attractive place to live? We, at Sowell's, are especially for fortunate because these panels are right across the street from us! We watched the project in progress and it is true... the painting was actually "All in a day's work". Amazing!
