Deck The Rails

For an additional sparkle this year, “Deck the Rails” for the holidays.  Along with the predictable garlands and bows decorating your stairway, add some ornaments, beads, lights, fruits, flowers, greenery, netting, tassels, ropes …just to suggest a few!

On the first post at the base of the stairs, tie a “banister bouquet”.  This bouquet is made of selected items wired together and then tied with a ribbon to the banister.  To create more textures and interest, use a variety of ribbons, flowers and greenery.  Wired ribbons make this project easy to create, to store and to reuse.  For a grander statement, the first bouquet may be larger and more elaborately filled than those bouquets following along the rail.  For a simpler look without the garland, decorate only with bouquets.

For exterior rails, these same ideas may be used, but remember that the decorative items must be able to withstand the winter elements.

Enjoy your newly “decked rails”, for they will definitely create a festive entrance to welcome family and guests for this holiday season.
